The owners of this charming North Ballard bungalow wanted more space for their family, grandparents, and potentially extra income from renting out their basement as an ADU (accessory dwelling unit). They also desired a modest, modern, functional environment with taller ceiling heights and brighter, lighter spaces.
The family wanted to remain living in their home and take on projects methodically and economically, so we collaborated on the design and construction for an entire decade! During our many conversations, we spent a lot of time drawing together and aligning our motivations. We balanced feasibility and functionality, and created a final product they love to call home.
